Lucy Owen Hoyt and Eric Ruple to give recital at Bridgewater College

Soprano Lucy Owen Hoyt and pianist Eric Ruple will present a recital on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.

bridgewaterThe recital will include works by Hector Berlioz, Cecile Chaminade, Ernest Chausson, Pauline Viardot, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc and Lori Laitman. The program also includes pieces by Wilhelm Stenhammar, Hugo Alfvén, Jean Sibelius, Frank Bridge, Roger Quilter and Michael Head.

Hoyt earned music degrees from Westminster Choir College, James Madison University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Recent recitals include an all-German program, an all-French program and a solo recital for the Edinburgh Festival-Fringe in Scotland.

Hoyt is an adjunct assistant professor at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Va. She serves on the board of the Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and is a member of The Voice Foundation and the American Association of University Women.

Ruple received music degrees from Arizona State University, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the University of Michigan.

He is a professor and Steinway Artist at JMU and for many years also taught at the Virginia Governor’s School summer program for the Visual and Performing Arts.

Ruple has been a pianist for the Richmond Symphony and the Virginia Symphony.

He has performed at Steinway Hall in New York City and several times at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., including a solo concert of the music of Beethoven.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to approximately 1,850 undergraduate students.
