staunton2editsThe Staunton Public Library has announced that BCWH Architects and its strategic library design partner, Tappé Architects, have been selected to develop a space study for the library.

BCWH is a Richmond, Virginia  based, award-winning full-service architectural, interior design, and landscape firm with a 28 year legacy of design excellence and outstanding client service.  Tappé Architects is a nationally recognized leader in the planning and design of public and academic libraries.  The two firms have collaborated on the recently completed Waynesboro Public Library renovation and Henrico County ‘s Gayton Library Branch renovation.  Currently, the firms are designing  the new Libbie Mill Library and Varina Area Library in Henrico County.  Other recently completed BCWH projects include the new Fluvanna County High School, Virginia Commonwealth University’s new Academic Learning Commons, and the Clover Hill Academy in Chesterfield County.

BCWH will work with staff and the public to evaluate design alternatives to improve the Library.  Ruth Arnold, Director of Library Services, explained  that the facility was built as a school in 1916 and renovated to be the Library in 1994.  She noted, “It’s time to adapt our wonderful building to the many changes in technology and library service now required in the 21st century.” To gain information on the library needs of the public, an online survey will be available for patrons, and several community meetings will be scheduled to solicit input.
