SAW Community Rallies to Provide Gifts for TED Volunteers

wscTransportation for the Elderly and Disabled (TED) Volunteer Coordinator Jacquie Horton will be mailing a holiday card to 37 TED volunteer drivers who have driven this year.

In appreciation for all that the drivers do to support TED, each card will include gift cards from Burger King, McDonald’s, Peterson Car Wash and Kline’s Ice Cream. Jacquie received several designated gifts including one from a TED rider, a Sunday school class, a former TED volunteer driver, and Kline’s Ice Cream to purchase the tokens of appreciation. Burger King, McDonald’s, and Peterson Car Wash also donated gift cards at the request of Jacquie.

In 2012, the TED Program experienced a 25% increase in request for rides. The average number of monthly one-way trips is easily 125 per month. The local service in Waynesboro runs around 225 to 250 per month. If you do the math, you will easily realize it takes a lot of volunteer hours to make this happen. In 2013, services will expand in Staunton. Without a doubt, the volunteer drivers are the ones who make this service work and their dedicated service is greatly appreciated.
