Virginia State Police are bringing attention to a 3-year-old cold case from Newport News in which a motorist from Washington, D.C., was pushed into traffic and killed by a passing motorist.
Mario Amaya Orellana, 47, of Washington, D.C., got into an altercation with another person on the shoulder of eastbound I-64 near Victory Boulevard in Newport News on Oct. 15, 2023, at 6:41 p.m.
The other man in the altercation, described by witnesses as a light-skinned black male, about six feet tall, with dreadlocks, pushed Orellana into the roadway, where Orellana was struck by a passing motorist in the right lane of travel.
Orellana sustained fatal injuries.
The other man involved in the altercation fled the scene prior to law enforcement arrival in a blue Kia four-door sedan.
No charges were placed against the passing motorist who struck Orellana.
