A former corrections officer at the Greensville Correctional Center has been arrested on an assault and battery charge stemming from a May 25 incident in which the CO was reportedly witnessed by staff repeatedly punching a restrained inmate.
The Virginia Department of Corrections announced the arrest of Cortraez Terry, a former sergeant at Greensville, on Thursday.
The release tells us that Greensville County Commonwealth Attorney Robin Quinn authorized the arrest warrant on Tuesday.
The release also tells us that Terry admitted to the assault when questioned afterward and was immediately terminated.
“The men and women of the VADOC do a great job daily providing public safety in our facilities,” VADOC Director Joseph W. Walters said. “The VADOC does not condone any abuse or excessive use of force and will hold any staff member accountable for acting in ways that are not in alignment with the values and principles of the VADOC.”
