UVA Swimming coach Todd DeSorbo was named the American Swimming Coaches Association Coach of the Year for 2026, his second straight honor from ACSA.
DeSorbo gets these honors because his women’s team has now won six straight national titles.
Not because he stood idly by when one of his associate head coaches, Gary Taylor, was put on a two-year probation by the US Center for SafeSport last year after Taylor admitted to emotional abuse of athletes that he’d coached at NC State, Auburn and the Piedmont Family YMCA.

DeSorbo and Taylor coached together at NC State, and DeSorbo helped Taylor get the job at the local YMCA after Auburn parted ways with Taylor in 2021.
Taylor’s suspension runs through March 2027.
Per a UVA Athletics release, the ACSA Coach of the Year award “is presented annually to the individual whose coaching effectiveness has contributed the most towards American swimming excellence on the world stage.”
I guess there’s nothing in the items for consideration about honor.
