A Waynesboro man who fled police in a dangerous pursuit last week was apprehended in Augusta County on Thursday, and now faces multiple charges.

Brandon William Fitzner, 33, of Waynesboro, was arrested as the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence on Kingsbury Drive in Waynesboro.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, K9 units located Fitzner inside the residence took him into custody.

Fitzner was wanted on warrants from Madison County when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to make contact with him on April 17.

During the encounter, per the sheriff’s office, Fitzner exited a window, entered a vehicle, and fled the scene, leading deputies on a pursuit.

The pursuit was terminated by Augusta County deputies when it entered Albemarle County, and Virginia State Police took over.

During the course of the pursuit in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area, the suspect vehicle struck multiple vehicles, drove through railroad crossing gates, and ultimately crashed.

Fitzner then fled the scene on foot and eluded law enforcement.

Fitzner is being held without bond in Middle River Regional Jail.
