Augusta County: Sheriff’s Office launches mobile app to deliver timely alerts to residents

ACSO mobile app The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is working to connect with residents through their smartphone or other mobile device.

The ACSO has launched an app through OCV Connect to deliver notification alerts and real-time updates to keep the community informed.

Sheriff Donald Smith said the app will give the department the ability to interact with residents better than its current social media platforms and website allow.

“The rollout of this application is an important milestone for our office and our community. This has been a goal of mine for many years, and I’m proud to see it now fully operational for Augusta County,” said Smith. “We will continue doing our best to provide current, relevant information while respecting your personal time by limiting push notifications for major incidents.”

The app will include information on:

  • crime alerts
  • most wanted
  • press releases
  • school and SRO directory
  • weather alerts
  • access to VDOT’s traffic alert platform
  • a portal for submitting tips, reporting problem areas, and sharing crime-related information with the sheriff’s office

The app is active and available for download through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. To find the app, search “Augusta County Sheriff VA.”

AFP has reached out to the ACSO to learn more about the costs associated with launching the app and will provide an update when that information is available.
