OK, so, yes, the Jay Jones texts – the 2025 version of but, her emails. For a reminder of the stakes in the 2025 Virginia AG race, we have Jason Miyares and the matter of SNAP.
Twenty-three state AGs are suing the Trump administration for its refusal to tap into emergency funds to keep SNAP benefits going out to people in need during the Republican Shutdown.
Not among those: our state AG, Jason Miyares.
“Other attorneys general are doing what Jason Miyares refuses to: stand up to Donald Trump to defend Virginians in need. While more than 850,000 Virginians could lose food assistance amid rising costs and mass layoffs, Miyares is siding with Trump – refusing to sue just like the 50 other times he has refused to challenge MAGA extremism,” Jones said in a statement.
He’s not good at the texting thing, but he’s right about what another four years of Jason Miyares as our AG would mean for Virginia.
More not challenging the obvious overreach of the Trump administration – those Don’t Tread on Me license plates ring hollow anymore, don’t they? – in addition to the frivolous lawsuits you could expect against DEI, ESG, LGBTQ, the CFP, R2D2, whatever the MAGAs are riled up about at any particular moment.
“Republicans know exactly what these consequences mean for real people, but Miyares is still putting his loyalty to Trump over Virginians’ health and well-being. Virginians deserve an attorney general who will fight for them – not let them go hungry to stay in the president’s good graces,” Jones said.
Hold your nose, and vote accordingly.
