Virginia controlled the action, outshooting North Carolina 15-5, but the ‘Hoos weren’t able to take advantage, and had to settle for a 0-0 draw with the Tar Heels on Saturday night at Klöckner Stadium.

“Disappointed, the guys are disappointed. This was always going to be a one-goal game. UNC has tied four teams in the conference,” UVA coach George Gelnovatch said.

Yeah, draws seem to be the main aim for UNC (4-1-4, 0-0-4 ACC), which seems content to sit back and look for counters.

It’s not a lot to watch, honestly.

There were only three shots on goal between the two teams in the match – two by Virginia (5-1-2, 2-0-2 ACC), one from Nick Dang, the other from Albin Gashi, with two other near-misses – Reese Miller, with only the keeper to beat, fired over the crossbar with 13 minutes left, and Nick Simmonds, alone in the penalty area, fired a shot just wide of the near post.

“We had good looks. One of those chances results in a goal, and we win the game,” Gelnovatch said. “Do I think we deserve to win the game? I do. Do I think they had a good chance in the game? I don’t think so. But they’re hard to play against, they’re tough to break down.”

Caleb Tunks, in his first career appearance, logged the full 90 minutes while making one save.
