Madison County: Chain-reaction crash on Route 29 kills one, injures several people

One person is dead, and several were injured in a five-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Sunday on Route 29 in Madison County.

According to Virginia State Police, the accident occurred at 4:49 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Seminole Trail and Route 230.

Four vehicles were traveling southbound on Route 29 when they slowed or stopped for a red light.

A fifth vehicle was unable to stop and rear-ended one of the vehicles which set off a chain-reaction crash involving all five vehicles.

There is one confirmed fatality. The name of the deceased has not been released.

Several others were transported to the hospital for various injuries, but none are considered life-threatening, according to VSP.
