Three men are dead following a single-vehicle crash on Roanoke Road in Botetourt County on Monday night.

James Roosevelt Winston, Jr., 61, of North Chesterfield, and William Julian Cosby, 50, and Corey Allen Byrd, 34, both of Roanoke, died at the scene.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the accident, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred March 31 at 6:22 p.m. in the 7500 block of Roanoke Road.

Winston’s 2016 Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on Route 220, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Winston was wearing a seatbelt; his two passengers were not, according to VSP.

The crash remains under investigation.
