A Richmond man and convicted felon who held his former girlfriend at gunpoint pled guilty Monday to possessing a firearm.

Trevon Barfield, 28, is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28 and faces up to 15 years in prison.

An online court records search found Barfield has an extensive criminal record for firearms, drug and destruction of property charges. He also has multiple probation violations.

According to court documents, on Aug. 12, 2023, Richmond Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting that Barfield had a firearm and was pointing it at his former girlfriend at an apartment complex.

Barfield had an outstanding arrest warrant at the time.

When officers found Barfield sitting at the top of a stairwell and informed him of the warrant, Barfield reached for an object in his pocket. After a brief struggle, the officers detained Barfield and recovered a loaded handgun from Barfield’s pocket, as well as a small amount of cocaine.

Barfield is a previously convicted felon, with two prior convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and cannot legally possess a firearm or ammunition.
