#9 JMU women’s lax falls at #6 Stanford, 14-13

The ninth-ranked James Madison women’s lacrosse team dropped a 14-13 decision at No. 6 Stanford Saturday afternoon.

JMU led 8-3 at halftime but the Cardinal inched its way back into the game until Stanford took a 12-11 lead with 6:53 to play.

After JMU scored back-to-back goals at 5:48 and 2:50 to reclaim the lead at 13-12, Stanford tallied two scores in the final 32 seconds to come away with the win.

JMU’s record is now 1-1 while Stanford has a 1-3 record after suffering three losses to other top-20 teams.

JMU held a 27-26 edge on shots, while Stanford controlled 18 draws to 11 for JMU.

Four Dukes scored multiple goals, with sophomore Amy Roguski (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) leading with four scores.  All-America red-shirt junior Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) added three goals and an assist, senior Ariel Lane (Vero Beach , Fla./Vero Beach) tallied three goals and senior Caitlin McHugh (Westminster, Md./Mercy) scored twice and had an assist.

Senior Annie Brophy (Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Ancarrow led JMU with three ground balls each, and Ancarrow had a team-high four draw controls.  Brophy, Ancarrow and senior Ashley Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) each had two caused turnovers.

Stanford was led in scoring by Emilie Boeri with five goals and three assists and Anna Kim with three goals.

Boeri scored the tying goal on a free-position shot with 32 seconds to go, and Kim scored the game-winner off a pass from Emily Newstrom with nine seconds left.

Dukes’ redshirt junior goalkeeper Alex Menghetti (Media, Pa./Penncrest) made five saves, and Stanford goaltender Lyndsey Munoz finished with nine saves.
