The Liberty-Appalachian State football game has been canceled, a casualty of the damage being done in North Carolina by the remnants of Hurricane Helene.

The game had been scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. Saturday kickoff at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, N.C.

The Boone area has received more than 9 inches of rain from the storm as of noon ET on Friday, with another 1 to 2 inches of rain forecast as the day plays out.

The game being canceled, and not postponed, means it will not be rescheduled.

Liberty’s schedule is the tough one to work around. The Flames are scheduled to play three mid-week games – Tuesday, Oct. 8, at home against Florida International, Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Kennesaw State, and Wednesday, Oct. 30 at home against Jacksonville State.

Appalachian State has two bye weeks – Oct. 19 and Nov. 16.

Liberty travels to UMass on Saturday, Nov. 16, so that one is a no-go.

There could have been a window to try to do something between App State’s Oct. 12 game at Louisiana and Liberty’s Oct. 23 game at Kennesaw State, but the two sides obviously couldn’t come to an agreement on that, if it was even discussed.
