Two young women are dead following an accident in Nelson County on Route 29 Saturday night.

Samantha L. Lively, 22, of Barboursville, died at the scene. Her sister, Heather E. Lively, 19, of Covesville, was taken to UVA Health where she later died.

Virginia State Police is investigating the double fatal crash that occurred at 8:47 p.m. on U.S. 29 northbound at the intersection with Irish Road.

A tractor trailer was heading northbound on Route 29 when it was unable to avoid striking the Chevrolet Aveo, driven by Samantha, which had entered the intersection, according to VSP.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. The name of the driver was not released.

The crash remains under investigation.

The women, graduates of Monticello High School, have a joint memorial service planned for Aug. 30..

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with final expenses.

The GoFundMe, set up by Elizabeth Jenkins, reads: “Two sisters that loved each other and everybody, never had a bad word to say about anyone. Anything will help this family with funeral expenses to let these girls rest easy.”
