Lime Kiln Theater’s Summer 2024 schedule continues on Saturday, July 27, with Traveling Players Ensemble’s presentation of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”

“Hamlet” centers on a reluctant hero making impossible choices. Returning home after his father’s death, Hamlet is unsettled by his mother’s speedy remarriage to his uncle. Then the ghost of Hamlet’s father appears and reveals that he was murdered by the man who now wears his crown – and commands Hamlet to murder him in revenge.

But, can you trust a ghost? Hamlet fakes madness while searching for the truth. He’s surrounded by faithful friends (or are they friendly spies?), an anguished court and a troupe of oddly relevant actors. The revenge tragedy brims with intrigue, trickery, heartache and more than a little humor.

Traveling Players Ensemble is one of the nation’s top performing arts and theatre programs, specifically created for students in 2nd to 12th grades. The ensemble, which offers a range of innovative summer camps and conservatories alongside year-round acting classes and workshops, has been recognized and chosen for awards of excellence from the National Endowment for the Arts, Virginia Commission for the Arts, and ArtsFairfax.

Lime Kiln Arts, Inc. is a nonprofit (501c3), operating at Lime Kiln Theater in Lexington. The nonprofit opened in 1984 and is rooted in and inspired by the magic of a natural, outdoor theater. Lime Kiln is thrilled to present another annual series of live music and theater featuring local, regional, and national acts.

Tickets are $15 per person in advance and are on sale now online. Tickets will be $20 per person at the door, with cash, Visa, MasterCard and Discover accepted.

The show has a runtime of 2.5 hours, including a 15-minute intermission, and it is suitable for ages 10 and up. Concessions will be available for purchase. Outside food will be allowed into the venue for the event, but outside alcohol is prohibited. The performance will take place at Lime Kiln 607 Borden Rd., Lexington, rain or shine.
