Update: Accident involving Amish horse buggy in Virginia killed 8-year-old girl

An accident in Cumberland County involving an Amish horse carriage on Sunday killed an 8-year-old girl, according to an update provided today from Virginia State Police.

The carriage was struck in the rear by a Ford F250 truck driven by Mack H. Robinson, 75, of Farmville. Robinson was not injured in the crash.

Charges are pending.

As a result of the accident, everyone in the carriage was ejected from the vehicle.

Enos King, 34, the driver of the carriage, and Katherine King, 35, of Farmville, and four other juvenile passengers, all suffered serious injuries. The juvenile passengers included two boys, ages 9 and 2; and two girls, ages 6 and 4. All were transported to VCU Medical Center.

The horse suffered minor injuries in the collision.

State Police report the two-vehicle crash occurred at 6:16 p.m. on Cumberland Road near the intersection with Blanton Farm Road.

The crash remains under investigation.
