ACC Football is, finally, joining the iPad Age: No more drawing plays in the dirt

I assumed, at first glance, that the news release from the ACC today, that the conference is working with Apple to put iPads on football sidelines and coaches booths this fall, had to have been an accidental resend from circa 2014 or so.

Seriously, they’re just now getting iPads?

“The ACC continues its commitment in embracing the use of technology to elevate the performance of our student-athletes, teams, officials, and more,” ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips said.

Turns out, the cutting-edge technology that dates back to the first decade of the 21st century was just approved for on-field use by the NCAA in April.

What’s good news for Apple is, of course, bad news for Polaroid.

“Between our state-of-the-art ACC Game Day Operations Center, being at the forefront of testing the technology in basketball and with this year’s integration in football, we are proud of our unparalleled prioritization of technology and the positive impact it will have for our league,” Phillips said.
