The explatory gubernatorial bid of Northern Virginia Democratic legislator Brian Moran is doing quite well, thank you, on the money front.

Virginians for Brian Moran director Mame Reiley announced today that the committee will report $1.38 million in receipts in the first reporting period in 2008.

The figure exceeds the combined efforts of 2005 gubernatorial candidates Tim Kaine and Jerry Kilgore in the comparable reporting period for the ’05 cycle.

“Brian’s statewide support is impressive. He’s getting help from people across the entire Commonwealth because Democrats realize he has a strong record and the best chance to win in November of 2009,” said Reiley, a longtime advisor to former Virginia governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Mark Warner.

“Brian’s strong performance lays the groundwork for an impressive statewide finance effort and a successful campaign,” Reiley said.

Moran has raised more than $3.3 million since January 2006.
