Augusta County: Route 250 detour for bridge replacement beginning June 5

Motorists using Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) in Augusta County will be directed to follow a short detour around a bridge replacement project beginning Friday, June 5.

The location is the Bell Creek bridge just west of the Route 250 intersection with Route 732 (Franks Mill Road) and Route 840 (Old Churchville Road) between Staunton and Churchville. The new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place for about a year.

Beginning June 5, Route 250 drivers will detour around the work zone using a temporary steel bridge and a portion of Route 732. Contractors for the Virginia Department of Transportation have made improvements to Route 732 to accommodate the additional traffic. Motorists should also be alert for traffic pattern changes at the Route 250/732/840 intersection as well as the convenience store adjacent to the work zone.

On Jan. 20, VDOT awarded a $3,292,339.72 construction contract to Fairfield-Echols LLC of Fishersville. The project is scheduled for completion in late spring 2021. All work is weather permitting.
