While we have a year before we will see the next Xbox and Playstation, the higher end computers have inevitably outperformed the console platforms. This is because the PC has stronger hardware than its rivals, and the PC today already has more power than what the next-generation consoles will have. That says something.
Look Deeply at E3
When you took a little deeper look at the E3 conference, what you will find is an undercurrent of superiority with the platform. The console games dominated the show floor at the E3 conference, but under the surface, you have a huge presence from some of the biggest PC companies out there like Nvidia, Intel and popular PC gaming brands like Alienware. If you dig a little more deeply into it, you’ll learn that many of the demo games being shown are being run on PC at E3 because of how they look much better than the console versions. Many times, the PC will be lurking underneath a table with a tablecloth or behind a curtain. They don’t tell you this, however.
While they don’t display this, many insiders in the industry know that they’re running these games from the PC.
False Impression from the Press
The press would have you believe that consoles are the best beyond a question. In fact, if you even hear about PC gaming, it would be a miracle. The console games overtake the PC in terms of press noise. If you have the best gaming computer, you will have access to an experience that you won’t have with consoles. It just doesn’t happen as much. Gaming rigs don’t actually cost as much as you might think. While the latest console will usually cost around $400, you could pay around $850 for a higher end gaming computer to get better graphics. Even a $200 graphics card will outperform what you can get with a PlayStation 4.
Consoles Don’t Upgrade as Well
Consoles differ from computers in the sense that they don’t do upgrades quite as well as what a PC does. In fact, you can’t upgrade a PlayStation 4 in the same way that you could a PC. For example, it’s not possible to open up your PlayStation 4 and add a new GPU to it. While the best gaming computer will cost you more upfront, you can upgrade it a lot more easily. In fact, after you have bought a PC, it can stay ahead of consoles.
Console Exclusives Don’t Exist Anymore
Granted, you may have one or two exclusive console games, but much of what you can get for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you can get for the PC. In the past, games were either exclusive to the Xbox or the PlayStation, and this left PC gamers out in the cold. However, you have an increasing level of availability of exclusive games. For example, games like Tekken 7 and Final Fantasy XV are both coming to the PC. You no longer have the same level of exclusivity.
The question isn’t have they “overtaken” the console games. That happened a long time ago because the graphics have always been better on the PC. The truth is that computer gaming has been far superior to the console experience for quite some time. You tend to have better games, more flexibility in the types of games and far superior graphics. While some games translate well to the PC, you have some PC games that simply don’t play as well on a console like the Sims 5 and Shogun Total War 2. For someone who wants to experience video gaming at its finest, they should try PC gaming at least once in their life.
