Two arrested on drug charges after Waynesboro traffic stop

waynesboroA Dec. 8 traffic stop on Interstate 64 in Waynesboro led to the arrests of two city residents.

Samuel Thomas Painter Jr., 59, and Alan Wayne Riley, 47, were charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 100 grams of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute heroin.

The charges carry a minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years to life.

Police seized 6 ounces of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $17,000), 9 grams of heroin with a street value of approximately $900, and more than $11,000 in U.S. currency.

Both men are being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.
