Liberty football coach Turner Gill has announced that Dennis Wagner, assistant head coach and offensive line coach, has been relieved of his duties.
“I would like to thank Dennis Wagner for all he and his family contributed to Liberty University and the football program,” stated Gill. “We pray God will bless them in their future endeavors.”
Wagner has served on Gill’s staff for the last five seasons, guiding Liberty’s offensive linemen. During his five-year tenure, 13 players earned All-Big South honors and 10 players were named to the VaSID All-State teams.
Last year, Jonathan Burgess, a former walk-on, capped off his stellar Liberty career by earned STATS FCS and Associated second-team All-America honors and being named to the CSN Fabulous Fifty All-America first team.
During his five years on staff, Wagner helped the Flames win Big South titles in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Liberty’s 2014 squad captured the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs, a first in program history, and opened the program’s first-ever postseason appearance with a win over No. 15/15 James Madison to advance to the second round.
