virginia logoThe Virginia Center for the Book, a program of Virginia Foundation for the Humanities (VFH), has been invited to the 16th annual National Book Festival, to be held September 24, 2016, in Washington D.C., at the Washington Convention Center.

The Virginia Center for the Book will host a booth in the Festival’s Pavilion of the States, sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Additional funding for Virginia’s participation is provided by Chief Officers of State Library Agencies. Exhibits in the Pavilion salute the literary traditions of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories, and attendees can talk with representatives of their home states and learn about each state’s literary heritage from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

A brochure, “Discover Great Places Through Reading,” will be distributed to attendees, featuring a list of great reads from each state and a map for kids that encourages them to visit all 52 affiliates to get a unique sticker or stamp. Virginia’s featured book on the brochure is The Way Home Looks Now by Virginia writer Wendy Shang, who participated in the Virginia Festival of the Book. Shang is also the recipient of the Asian-Pacific American Librarians Association Award for Children’s Literature.

In addition to the Pavilion of the States, the National Book Festival will feature more than 120 distinguished authors across many fields and in all genres of writing, with audiences ranging from young readers to adults. Detailed schedule information can be found at loc.gov/bookfest.
