UVA wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus has been named to the 2016 Paul Hornung Award Watch List, announced the Louisville Sports Commission on Friday. The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, now in its seventh season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend Paul Hornung.
Zaccheaus (So., Philadelphia, Pa.) did a little of everything on offense for the Cavaliers in 2015. He rushed 33 times for 262 yards and one touchdown. Zaccheaus also caught 21 passes for 216 yards and a score. Against Duke he became the first Cavalier since Perry Jones in 2011 (Miami) to throw for a touchdown and receive a touchdown pass in the same game. Zaccheaus also led UVA with 541 kick return yards, including setting a program record with 231 kick return yards against Boise State. The 231 kick return yards are tied for third-most all-time in ACC history.
Many consider Hornung the most versatile player in the history of college and pro football. He won the 1956 Heisman Trophy at quarterback for Notre Dame and was the number one pick in the 1957 NFL draft. He played every position in the backfield during his career with the Irish, where he also punted, kicked, returned kicks and played defensive back. While in the NFL, Hornung was a multi-threat offensive back and prolific kicker. He was a member of four NFL championship teams as an all-pro halfback for the Green Bay Packers and led the NFL in scoring 1959-60-61, set the single season scoring record in 1960 with 176 points and was named League MVP following the 1961 season.
