Jackson, Ingram named ACC basketball players of the week

Notre Dame’s Demetrius Jackson has earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors for the first time this season, while Duke’s Brandon Ingram was recognized as ACC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. Both Jackson and Ingram led their teams to a pair of key conference wins last week.

Jackson, a junior guard from Mishawaka, Indiana, averaged 22 points and four assists per game as the Fighting Irish won on the road at Clemson, and then defeated No. 13 Louisville at home.

Jackson scored 17 points with three assists in the 89-83 win at Clemson last Monday night, helping the Irish hand the Tigers their first conference home loss of the season. He keyed an offense that scored 54 points in the second half against the Tigers and played all but 20 seconds of the game.

In Notre Dame’s 71-66 win over Louisville on Saturday, Jackson matched his career high with 27 points on 7-of-15 shooting. He connected on a career-best six 3-pointers (6-of-12 from behind the arc) with five assists and two rebounds while playing the full 40 minutes. Jackson made all seven of his free-throw attempts against the Cardinals.

Ingram averaged a team-high 21.5 points and added 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists on the week as Duke toppled No. 13 Louisville on Monday and defeated No. 7 Virginia on Saturday to extend its winning streak to four games.

Ingram propelled Duke past Louisville with 18 points and 10 rebounds, marking his sixth double-double to lead all ACC freshmen this season. He was 5-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line while handing out four assists. Ingram scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half.

Against Virginia, Ingram shook off a slow start to score a game-high 25 points, one shy of his career high and matching his best output in an ACC game. The Kinston, North Carolina, native scored 18 consecutive points for Duke in a stretch that started near the end of the first half and continued after halftime. Ingram was 4-of-9 (.444) from behind the arc in the win, tying his career high for triples in a game. He also hauled in seven rebounds against UVA.
