melissa hartStaunton Police arrested Melissa S. Hart, 51 of Staunton, on Monday on charges that Hart falsified reports regarding the alleged presence of asbestos in the Cochran Judicial Center.

Hart faces two felony charges related to the alleged falsified reports, which surfaced during an ongoing investigation into documents provided to the City of Staunton regarding the presence of asbestos in the city courthouse.

Hart is alleged to have falsified asbestos test reports and provided them to the city in her role as an employee of her now former employer, a civil engineering firm contracted by the city.

According to police, the engineering firm reportedly discovered discrepancies in the asbestos test reports and promptly contacted the city about the issue.
