Virginia Organizing Forum explores history of Valley immigration

AFP

flag2On Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m., Virginia Organizing will hold a forum on the history and current state of immigration in the Shenandoah Valley at the Staunton Public Library (1 Churchville Ave, Staunton, VA 24401).

“With immigration reform being debated in Congress, the issue can seem so far away,” said Andrea Jackson, a Virginia Organizing Augusta-Staunton-Waynesboro Chapter leader. “Virginia Organizing wants to bring that attention back to where it belongs—the people. Immigration reform is about real people living real lives and knowing the history of immigration in our area will highlight the human aspect of immigration reform.”

Another Virginia Organizing Augusta-Staunton-Waynesboro Chapter leader, Elizabeth La Grua, said, “Knowing our history helps us move forward. The Valley needs to understand where we have been, so we know where to go without making the mistakes of our past.”
