Staunton man dead in Augusta County crash

policeA Staunton man is dead after a single-vehicle accident in Augusta County reported early Monday morning.

James A.L. Wheeler, 23, of Staunton, died in the accident, reported at 1:57 a.m. Monday, on Route 701, approximately 250 feet east of Route 817 in Augusta County.

Wheeler was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue walong Route 701 when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a tree and overturned.

Wheeler was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
