Maggie the One-Eyed Peregrine Falcon will be making a special appearance at the Waynesboro Public Library on Friday.
The 2 p.m. event is free and open to the public.
Maggie hatched in spring 2014 in a nest atop a building in downtown Richmond – one of only about two dozen known peregrine nests in all of Virginia. She took her first flight on June 17; two days later, she crashed into a building. She was brought to the Wildlife Center of Virginia; despite an all-out effort, her damaged left eye could not be saved.
A one-eyed falcon cannot be returned to the wild. Maggie is now a permanent resident of the Center – she visits schools, libraries, and other community events representing the Wildlife Center and wild things.
Maggie’s story has been turned into a children’s book – Maggie the One-Eyed Peregrine Falcon: A True Story of Rescue and Rehabilitation. The author of that book, Christie Gove-Berg of Minnesota, will be joining Maggie at the library on Friday afternoon.
