DuPont Community Credit Union announces merger with WVFCU

dupont-credit-unionEffective today, Walker-Virginia Federal Credit Union (WVFCU) has officially merged into DuPont Community Credit Union. The merger has been approved by Federal and State credit union regulators and in March, the members of WVFCU voted to approve the merger.

This decision comes after safety and security changes at the Walker-Tenneco plant, which housed WVFCU’s only branch location, would have required WVFCU to relocate its office off site.

“After learning that we needed to move our credit union operations, WVFCU Board of Directors determined that it would not be in the best interest of the credit union to take on the relocation expense,” says Jimmy Garber, WVFCU manager for 40 years. “We found DuPont Community Credit Union to be the best fit for our members. They have a strong commitment to their members and the community, while offering a wide variety of products and services that will meet the needs of our members today and in the years to come.”

DCCU welcomes new members from WVFCU and looks forward to taking care of their financial needs. “We are pleased to welcome WVFCU members to DCCU,” says Gerald B. Hershey, DCCU President/CEO. “We look forward to providing our new members with the service they have come to expect.”

Walker-Virginia Federal Credit Union opened in 1965 and was located in Harrisonburg, VA and was a financially sound credit union with approximately 439 members and $1.7 million in assets. Garber attributes the success of WVFCU for 50 years to the strong support from its members and Board of Directors.
