Del. Dickie Bell announced today that he has been chosen by the Speaker of the House of Delegates, Bill Howell, to represent the Commonwealth at the Southern Regional Education Board’s Annual Legislative Work Conference. Additionally, Speaker Howell appointed him to the National Governors’ Association Center for Best Practices Three Branch Institute on “Child Social and Emotional Well- Being.”

A 22-point game by Liberty redshirt senior guard/forward Devon Brown (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) helped boost the Flames (5-3) to a 60-48 win at James Madison (3-5) Tuesday evening at the JMU Convocation Center.

Augusta Health’s Community Services Committee, established by the Augusta Health Board of Directors to support health initiatives and support partner health-improvement organizations in the community, has awarded $109,254 in single year grants to 14 local organizations. The awards were presented at the September 28 meeting of the Community Health Forum.

The new superintendent at Fishburne Military School is a familiar face in the FMS community. Gary R. Morrison, a 1981 graduate of Fishburne who also served on the faculty and later as the director of admissions, was named to the top administrative position at the school at a meeting of the Fishburne-Hudgins Educational Foundation Board of Trustees.

Increasing opportunities for adults in our community through increased literary skills, a number of organizations are providing over $15,000 in funding support to LEARN (Learn English and Reading Now, Inc.), while several new members of the nonprofit’s Board of Directors and a new program coordinator have been announced

Thursday’s Waynesboro Generals game was started off with a ceremonial first pitch from J.P. Wegkamp, a man visiting Waynesboro with his wife and daughter all the way from Holland. Just before he threw that opening pitch, the family shared the story behind their visit
