Letter: Oil export ban

A few weeks ago, the U.S. House voted to lift the longstanding ban on crude oil exports. It’s now up to President Obama and the Senate to stop this dangerous proposal – a big boost for the oil companies at the expense of the climate and our health.

Attorney General Mark Herring announced today that Virginia will join a coalition of seventeen other states and seven major municipalities taking legal action to support the Clean Power Plan, a national pollution-reduction strategy that will combat the impact of climate change on Virginia’s economy, coastal communities, the military, agriculture and forestry industry, and the health of Virginians.

Clean Power Plan goes into effect

The Clean Power Plan was published in the federal register today, beginning the process of cleaning up America’s dirtiest power plants, the leading source of U.S. global warming pollution. The rule’s publication is widely expected to trigger a new wave of polluter-driven attacks on the rule, both in the courts and in Congress.
