Over the past week, I had the opportunity to meet with our local first responders throughout Central and Southside Virginia.

The last of the trails closed by the Rocky Mtn Fire in Shenandoah National Park are now open.

Only a few days ago, driving east, I encountered a warm glow on the horizon. Its light caught my attention immediately, and was a source of thought the rest of the way home.

Shenandoah National Park is experiencing a very large wildland fire, currently the second largest in the Park’s history, at 9,386 acres.

The Rocky Mtn Fire has grown to cover 8,952 acres as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and is now approximately 43 percent contained, according to reports.

For firefighter and visitor safety, trail closures have been put into effect due to the Rocky Mount Fire in the Shenandoah National Park.

The Rocky Mount fire in the south district of Shenandoah National Park has grown to approximately 2,094 acres.

The Rocky Mountain Fire in the south district of Shenandoah National Park has grown to approximately 500 acres.
