Gov. Bob McDonnell Wednesday announced the membership of his newly-created Task Force of School and Campus Safety. The membership includes educators, public safety experts, local leaders, mental health practitioners, legislators, parents, and students.

With legislators and transportation leaders by his side, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Tuesday a plan that would provide more than $3.1 billion in transportation funding for the Commonwealth over the next five years, tying transportation funding to economic growth and replacing the state’s outdated gas tax revenue model with a 0.8 percent increase in the state’s sales tax dedicated to transportation.

Dr. Jim Armstead noted professor of military strategy will present “Strategic Analyses of Civil War” at WTA’s Gateway on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. Dr. Armstead’s presentation will look at the whole of the war, the strategic plans on both sides and address why North won. The presentation has been given round the world to very favorable reviews and is famous for its comprehensive view of the conflict.

Northern Virginia Democratic State Sen. Chap Petersen announced on Monday his proposal to establish a five-year limit for all tax credits in Virginia. The proposal takes the form of a constitutional amendment, subject to ratification by both the Senate, House of Delegates, and the citizens of Virginia.

It’s that time again. Virginia General Assembly time. Remember that little election way back in November 2011, the one when all 140 seats of the General Assembly were up for grabs? Now it is time for the winners to take their annual winter trek down the James. As for those the voters have excused from such chilly trips to Richmond, they are free to go elsewhere this winter, preferably to a more hospitable spot where “the weather better suits their souls.”

Behind 18 points from Walter Foster, 17 points from Zak Kirkbride, and 15 points each from Kuran Iverson and Daniel Dixon, the Fishburne Caisson PG basketball team raced to a 50-20 halftime advantage en route to a 86-57 win over the Bridgewater College JV team Sunday afternoon.

Owners of woodlands large and small will learn how to maximize their property’s potential at the 10th annual Woods and Wildlife Conference. This educational event will be held February 23 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, at Germanna Community College’s Daniel Technology Center in Culpeper.

Gov. Bob McDonnell on Thursday proclaimed 2013 The Year of the Teacher in Virginia. The Year of the Teacher is part of Governor McDonnell’s ALL STUDENTS initiative. The Year will feature programs and special recognition of teachers in Virginia. Information will be updated regularly at www.ALLSTUDENTS.Virginia.Gov.
