The Frontier Culture Museum announced today that the museum has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development to undertake the Virginia Artisan Center Planning Project.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine today highlighted more than $2.5 million that’s being made available for 24 Virginia community health centers as a result of the Affordable Care Act. Last year, the 24 eligible health centers served 283,906 Virginians.

Del. Dickie Bell (R-Staunton), a retired special education teacher, encourages teachers to apply for the newly created Governor’s Teacher Cabinet. The Cabinet, comprised of teachers from across the Commonwealth, will advise the governor and Secretary of Education on policies related to the status of teaching in Virginia.

Warner (D-VA), Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) today introduced The Student Right to Know Before You Go Act to ensure that a wide range of comparative data about higher education programs is more readily available for prospective students and their families. They discussed their bipartisan legislation during a roundtable on Capitol Hill this morning with students, parents and school counselors.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced today the recipients of fiscal year 2013 planning grants from the Governor’s Agriculture & Forestry Industries Development Fund (AFID). Eleven projects covering more than thirty localities have been awarded a total of $249,000 to support the growth of agricultural and forestry projects in the Commonwealth.

The Waynesboro Cultural Commission is pleased to announce that unprecedented support by three of Waynesboro’s civic organizations to fund the publication of Waynesboro Writes. The Waynesboro and the Waynesboro- East Augusta Rotary Clubs and the Waynesboro Kiwanis have provided financial resources for the annual publication. “We are grateful to the three clubs for their aid. Without their support, the Commission could not have published the fourth in the series,” said Dr. Clair Myers, chair of the Waynesboro Cultural Commission.

The first local performance sponsored by the Staunton Music Guild’s “Gift of Music” program will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Waynesboro Public Library, 600 S. Wayne Ave. The Staunton Music Guild (SMG) will provide matching funds to the Friends of the Library to present The Harmony Sisters at noon. The Harmony Sisters are SMG members Brenda Remis and Beth Lins. They will be performing a program of gospel, bluegrass and original songs.
