Augusta Health to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day on June 2

Augusta Health’s Cancer Program will celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday, June 2 from 2-4 pm at the Augusta Health Cancer Center. The program will include recognition of survivors, remarks by physicians and survivors, tours of Augusta Health Cancer Center, information booths, refreshments and music.

‘Roadmap’ of human metabolism offers new understanding of cancer, obesity, more

An international consortium of researchers has created the largest computer model of human metabolism to date, an astonishingly detailed roadmap that points the way to better understanding of cancer, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and a host of other conditions. It’s a powerful new tool that will speed the development of new drugs and treatments and, eventually, may allow doctors to tailor medicine to each patient’s personal biology.

Augusta Health Cancer Center offers annual free Skin Cancer Screening

Augusta Health Cancer Center will conduct its annual free Skin Cancer Screening on Tuesday, May 14 beginning at 5:30 pm. The screening will be held on the first floor of the Augusta Health Cancer Center. Please call 540.332.4190 or 540.932.4190 for an appointment. The screenings will be conducted by local dermatologists. The screening is open to those who are not current patients of a dermatologist; priority will be given to those not screened last year.

Augusta Health will Combat Cancer at a fun, fitness fundraising event on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m. at Lifetime Fitness. Proceeds from the event will benefit Appearances, a new boutique in the Augusta Health Cancer Center. Appearances will sell reasonably priced hats, turbans, wigs, lymphedema sleeves, prosthetics, bras and other items needed by cancer patients.

Augusta Health Cancer Center offers free annual prostate cancer screening

Augusta Health Cancer Center will conduct its annual free Prostate Cancer Screening on Wednesday, Sept. 19 beginning at 5:30 pm. The screening will be held on the first floor of the Cancer Center and is open to men aged 40 and above, or African-American men or men with a family history of prostate cancer aged 35 and above.
