In May I attended the cornerstone dedication for the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. I am a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and I am very pleased that a new museum is being built to commemorate the American victory at Yorktown. As noteworthy as the new structure is, most important is the envisioning of the message it will convey about the significance of the American victory in the stream of world history.

Longwood names Brian McCullough head baseball coach

Longwood University Director of Athletics Troy Austin has announced the appointment of Brian McCullough as the new baseball head coach for 2013-14. McCullough, a former starting pitcher and team captain for the Lancers, takes over for Charles Buddy Bolding, who recently retired after 35 years at the helm (953-544-4).

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of July, is exhibiting the oil paintings of Joe Garber. Garber’s theme, Summer of 2013 & the Fourth of July, 1776, shows his interests in historical research about the first twenty-five years in the founding of Jamestown.
Warner leads bipartisan effort to restructure housing finance system

Mark Warner (D-VA) and Bob Corker (R-TN) introduced bipartisan legislation today to strengthen America’s housing finance system by replacing the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac with a streamlined, privately-capitalized system that preserves market liquidity and protects taxpayers from bailouts during any future economic downturns.
