Earth Talk: A Fierce Green Fire

A Fierce Green Fire is a new film documenting the rise of the modern environmental movement from the 1960s through the present day. It premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be playing at select theaters across the country beginning in September 2013. Educators, environmental groups and grassroots activists also will be showing the film at small and large events from coast to coast over the course of the fall.

Following a nationwide search, Mary Baldwin College has selected Brigadier General Teresa Djuric to serve as the new commandant of cadets for the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) and special assistant to the president, effective October 1.

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe received two more endorsements from Virginia Republicans on Friday. Maria Jankowski, the Vice Chairman of the Indigent Defense Commission and a current McDonnell appointee, and Bobby Beck, the founder of the Beck Company, both supported Governor Bob McDonnell in 2009, but joined “Virginians for McAuliffe” because of McAuliffe’s commitment to finding bipartisan solutions to the challenges Virginia faces.

The Richmond Raiders have re-signed head coach James Fuller for the 2014 professional indoor football season. Fuller led the Raiders to back-to-back appearances in the PIFL Championship Game in each of the last two seasons, and has guided the team to a league-best 13-1 record at home during that span.
