Last week, the House approved legislation to allow Fifth District families to keep their healthcare policies in 2014. H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act, passed the House with bipartisan support. Millions of Americans have received notification that their health plans have been cancelled as a result of the President’s health care overhaul.

Last week several VPAS employees and one intern attended the leadership training for SAIL, which stands for Stay Active & Independent for Life. This exercise program is actually a fall prevention program, but it is not billed as such since seniors sometimes tend to avoid “fall prevention programs” (I’m not old, I don’t fall).

UVa. women’s basketball defeats Louisiana Tech, 95-82

The Virginia women’s basketball team (2-1) had its highest scoring output since 2009 as the Cavaliers defeated Louisiana Tech (0-2), 95-82, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 16) at John Paul Jones Arena. The last time UVa scored 95 points in a game was Nov. 18, 2009, a 110-63 win over USC Upstate in Charlottesville.

Active sonar is a technology used on ships to aid in navigation, and the U.S. Navy tests and trains with it extensively in American territorial waters. The Navy also conducts missile and bomb testing in the same areas. But environmentalists and animal advocates contend that this is harming whales and other marine wildlife.

VMI football wins Big South finale over Gardner-Webb, 27-9

The VMI Keydets took full advantage of five turnovers and 13 penalties by the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs, and led wire to wire in a 27-9 Keydet win in Big South football action Saturday afternoon in Lexington. The victory came in VMI’s final Big South football game, prior to next year’s jump to the Southern Conference.
