I was pleased to take part in two events that demonstrated that opportunities are on the horizon for our communities. Danville’s job fair, sponsored by the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, was an encouraging display, with 35 area employers advertising nearly 700 available positions.

The gray wolf is still considered “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). But a June 2013 proposal by the Obama administration to “delist” the animals—save for a small struggling population of Mexican gray wolves in Arizona and New Mexico—could change that if finalized later this year.

The VMI Keydets got the tying or go-ahead run to the plate four times in their last two at-bats, but the late rally fell short as VMI was edged by the Longwood Lancers, 6-4, in Big South baseball action Friday at Gray-Minor Stadium in Lexington, Va. The result evened the series at one game apiece.

Virginia House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford), Majority Leader Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights), Caucus Chairman Timothy D. Hugo (R-Fairfax) and Majority Whip Jackson Miller (R-Manassas) sent a letter Tuesday to U.S. Sen. Mark Warner urging the senator to denounce Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s decision to hold the state budget hostage to Medicaid expansion.
