Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Wednesday that overseas visitor spending in Virginia in 2011 hit a record of $390 million, a 21 percent increase over 2010. The state also welcomed increased visitation and spending by Canadian visitors in 2011, with overnight visitation up 10.6 percent and spending up nearly 11 percent, totaling more than $148 million.

Another day, another bit of momentum for President Barack Obama in the crucial battleground state of Virginia. A new Washington Post poll of Virginia voters released on Tuesday gives Obama an eight-point lead over Republican Mitt Romney. Obama, a Democrat, was at 52 percent in the poll, with Romney at 44 percent.

The River City Radio Hour’s Friday, Sept. 21st performances will mark the beginning of the production’s sixth season. Featured in the opening shows will be The Boogie Kings, violinist Carolyn Lam, comedian Marsha Howard, and The River City Players in a new serial by playwright Bob Crawford. The concept that CAA Football teams are lurking in the shadows seems a little strange. The CAA had become the FCS’ dominant conference, only to take a step backward on the national scene last year.
