Attorney General Mark Herring accepted the Humane Law Enforcement Award from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) for his office’s role in shutting down and successfully prosecuting a multi-state cockfighting ring in Wise County, Virginia and Kentucky.

Governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency today, an action that authorizes state agencies to assist local governments in responding to the winter storm that is sweeping across the commonwealth today through tomorrow morning and is expected to blanket many parts of the state with 3-14 inches of snow.

Alert motorist tips off police, leading to capture of wanted Augusta County man

An alert motorist led Virginia State Police Wednesday morning (Feb. 11) to a man wanted by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office. Mark Zawhorodny is now being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton on several charges related to violating the conditions of his release.
