Across the Sixth District and the nation, new college students are moving onto campuses for the first time, setting up dorm rooms, preparing for classes, and are just beginning to embark on their higher education.

William & Mary has raised $22 million in private funds to renovate Walter J. Zable Stadium. Two $6 million gifts, one from Hunter J. Smith ’51 and the other from James W. ’62, J.D. ’64, LL.D. ’00 and Frances G. McGlothlin ’66, will enable the university to move forward with the project to enhance the 79-year-old football facility.

The Wildlife Center of Virginia, a leading teaching and research hospital for native wildlife, will release a young Bald Eagle on Thursday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Claytor Lake State Park.

There has been a good bit of attention the past couple of weeks on Waynesboro’s ongoing issues with an understaffed, underpaid police force, as if this is a new development.
