A month ago, playing pickup basketball at the Waynesboro YMCA, I was matched up with a young 70-year-old, John Curry, who, to say the least, didn’t play his age.

There has been a good bit of attention the past couple of weeks on Waynesboro’s ongoing issues with an understaffed, underpaid police force, as if this is a new development.

The River City Radio Hour begins the new season in an open-air performance in downtown Waynesboro. The traditional August opener will be on the 500 block of West Main Street. With the Wayne Theatre as a backdrop, the Friday, August 22 at 7:00pm Radio Hour will again bring music, comedy and drama to its audience.

The purpose of the Waynesboro Cultural Commission is to support the arts and culture in Waynesboro. One of the worst things a group can do is commit time and energy to something simply because “we’ve always done it.”

National touring and recording star Scott Helmer will stop in Waynesboro on his year-long, cross-country tour to help theatres like the Wayne to make, as he says, “this world a better place.”

The last in the series of Historic lectures will focus on Waynesboro’s role in the Civil War. The speaker is Richard G. Williams, civil war historian and writer.

The Red Brick House, Waynesboro’s first school house, currently owned by the City, was in disrepair and fighting for its life in early 2013 when the Waynesboro Historic Commission registered its opinion that preservation was preferable to demolition.

WTA’s Gateway and the Hamner Theater join forces once again to present “Lovers and Other (Familiar) Strangers”. The performances are scheduled for 8:00pm on Friday and Saturday, May 9 – 10 at 329 West Main Street in Downtown Waynesboro.
