Harrisonburg gears up for Bike Month in May

As the Bike Capital of Virginia, Harrisonburg is paving the way for an unforgettable celebration of National Bike Month in May. Through Bike Month, New Community Project’s Northend Greenway, the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC), and the City of Harrisonburg are encouraging community members of all age levels to bike more often, noting it’s a greener, healthier, and less expensive form of transportation.

McDonnell announces 60 new jobs in Augusta County

Gov. Bob McDonnell today announced that Shamrock Farms, one of the largest family-owned-and-operated dairies in the U.S., will build a $50 million dairy manufacturing facility in Augusta County. The project will create 60 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed against Maryland and West Virginia for the project.

Augusta County Historical Society to spotlight Valley Campaign

The year 2012 marked the 150th anniversary of Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson’s 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Conducted during the spring and early summer of 1862, Jackson’s maneuvers in the Valley are still considered by historians and military strategists to be nothing short of tactical genius. On Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m., the Augusta County Historical Society will present “Keeping the Federals at Bay: Stonewall Jackson’s 1862 Valley Campaign.”
