EMU women’s basketball earns NCAA Tournament bid

The EMU basketball women received an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA D-III National Tournament, earning just the program’s second-ever trip the national tourney. The Royals, 21-6 overall, will play 23-4 Marymount (VA) Friday in a First Round game hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. The winner will take on either host CNU (26-2) or Guilford (23-4) on Saturday.

Central Shenandoah EMS Council is now accepting nominations for its 2013 Regional EMS Awards program. This regional program consists of 11 state level EMS awards and two local awards. The regional recognition program honors the exceptional contributions of EMS providers in the Central Shenandoah Valley make to their communities.

Vanpool formation meeting to be held March 9th

RideShare will host a vanpool formation meeting at the Waynesboro Public Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9th. The meeting is for commuters that live in Waynesboro, Staunton, Harrisonburg, Augusta County, or Rockingham County and work in Charlottesville. During the meeting, we will discuss what is involved in forming and participating in a vanpool. The meeting is for informational purposes and does not obligate you to join a vanpool.

Fields of Gold receives Building Collaborative Communities Grant

Agritourism in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia will be able to roll out a whole new range of activities in the coming years thanks to a recent $60,000 grant from the Building Collaborative Communities program. The Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission will administer the grant on behalf of the Fields of Gold region. Funds will be allocated to develop partnerships, create business support services for farmers and agritourism operators, market the Valley’s rich agricultural offerings and build a sustainable organizational structure for long-term viability.
