Meet Mark Twain at WTA’s Gateway

Actor Ryan Clemens, relative of Mark Twain (penname of writer Samuel L. Clemens) will bring his show Meet Mark Twain to WTA’s Gateway on Friday, March 22. His performance brings to life the celebrated American author and demonstrates that Twain’s wit and wisdom remain poignant and laugh-out-loud funny today, more than a century after his passing. The performance is at 7:30 pm. The Gateway is at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.

Kaine discusses budget uncertainties at Armed Services hearing

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Budget Committees, today discussed the impact of sequestration and continued budget uncertainty on Virginia and the nation’s military readiness during a hearing with General James N. Mattis, Commander of U.S. Central Command, and Admiral William H. McRaven, Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command. The hearing follows Kaine’s visit to the Pentagon yesterday to meet with Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Deputy Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, Chief of Staff of the Army Ray Odierno, and employees of the Department of Defense.

“William Sheppard:A Hero of Waynesboro” will be the February history lecture at WTA’s Gateway. Greg Bruno looks at the impact Sheppard, an African-American Waynesboro native, had in exposing the devastating role King Leopold II of Belgium played in the Congo Free State. The lecture is at 7pm on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.
