The popular musical group Gabby Haze returns to WTA’s Gateway on Saturday, April 5 with their mix of musical genres. After their first appearance in December of 2011, the fans keep asking for them to return.

The ACME Swing Mfg. Co, an ecstatically fun band, will return to WTA’s Gateway with its unique version of hot swing on Saturday, Jan. 18. Noted for their “jazz music that you can dance to!”

Virginia and Northern Iowa combined for 10 points in the first 11 minutes. The Cavs heated up in the second half en route to a 57-43 win over UNI Saturday in Charlottesville. UVa. (8-3) led 21-16 at the break despite shooting just 29.76 percent from the field.

Remember the DIck Bestwick era? An entire generation of UVa. sports fans and alums are only familiar with the name because they read it somwhere once. Bestwick’s last team at Virginia went 1-10 in 1981, capping a 16-49-1 tenure.

The Trenton Thunder (16-12) claimed the opener of a three-game series from the Richmond Flying Squirrels (13-15), 3-1, in front of 6,804 on Friday night at The Diamond. With the victory, the Thunder remained unbeaten by the Squirrels this season, having won the first five meetings between the two clubs.

Georgia Tech closed to within five in the second half, but a 16-1 UVa. run pushed the Cavs to a 20-point lead, and they coasted from there to win 82-54 on Sunday.

Staunton Senior Center was in full swing with holiday activity and otherwise, starting out the day with a Memory Screening through the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Two lovely nurses provided by the local Health Department screened four members and three guests. Even though the numbers were small, the screening was worthwhile as it was recommended that some of the participants speak with their physicians when they next have appointments.

Post-debate polls gave Barack Obama a win in the rubber match of the three-debate series with Mitt Romney, but as with his win in Round 2, it was far from the kind of blowout win that Romney had in Round 1 back on Oct. 3.
